Pat Forde talks college football, Rio 2016; Paul Catalina on Baylor; Team USA’s Myles Porter

Welcome to the 45th episode of The Weekly Brew podcast. Stacked guest lineup this week with Yahoo Sports national college columnist Pat Forde, ESPN Central Texas’ Paul Catalina and Team USA Paralympian Myles Porter.

The guys discuss some bad news – the fallout from the recent Pepper Hamilton report on the Baylor sexual assault and domestic violence cover up scandal – and a bit of good news, with University of Houston Men’s Basketball head coach Kelvin Sampson (a frequent guest on the show) receiving a very generous and well-deserved raise from the school’s board of regents this week.

Pat Forde, Yahoo Sports’ national college columnist and one of the biggest names in the world of college athletics, joins us to take a macro look at the Baylor situation and what it means for college sports on the whole. Forde also examines how the College Football Playoffs system has impacted the schedule, leading to a historically strong slate of opening weekend games, with the University of Houston vs the University of Oklahoma matchup of particular interest to UH fans and Kevin. Forde also covers the Olympics and shares some of his insight into Michael Phelps’ motivation and preparation headed into the 2016 Games in Rio.

Next, Paul Catalina – of ESPN Central Texas – becomes The Weekly Brew’s only three-time guest when he comes on to break down in detail the Pepper Hamilton report on Baylor malfeasance, the firings or demotions of major university figures like Ken Starr and Art Briles, and the feelings and emotions swirling around Waco.

Finally, Team USA Paralympian Myles Porter, a judoka and a 2016 gold medalist hopeful, joins us to celebrate the 100 Days to the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games, talking about his experiences competing in the sport of Judo, including giving a lesson to President Obama on the east lawn of the White House.
