Justice Don Willett; Sports Illustrated + MMQB’s Tim Rohan; Taylor’s Top Takeaways

2016-09_Don-Willett_Matt-Wood
Texas Supreme Court Justice Don Willett headlines this week’s show as he discusses his career as one of the most respected legal minds in the United States, his ties to Antonin Scalia’s vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court, and more. Willett also offers commentary on his wildly popular social media presence and Baylor’s rebuilding job under Matt Rhule.

Next, Sports Illustrated’s Tim Rohan joins Hunter and Austin to discuss his MMQB story in which he documents his experience wearing a Colin Kaepernick jersey to a Bills-Jets game in Week 1. Rohan also opines on key storylines (hint: Kaepernick) that will drive the narrative throughout the 2017 NFL season and his locks for the college football playoff.

Then, the NFL Network’s Taylor Bisciotti recaps week two of the NFL season in Taylor’s Top Takeaways before Hunter and Austin close out the show by dissecting the Astros AL West crown, and what the club needs to do in order to find success as October nears.

Houston Cougar Football; Texans’ beat writer Aaron Wilson; SportsRadio 610’s Sean Pendergast

Welcome to the 59th episode of The Weekly Brew podcast – the Voice of Houston! It’s another jam-packed show this week, as usual, with Chronicle Texans’ beat reporter – and national NFL writer – Aaron Wilson and SportsRadio 610’s Sean Pendergast on tap.

Austin is, as announced last week, enjoying the beaches of Rio, taking in the Paralympics on behalf of his day-job company, so after a brief introduction, he turns things over to Kevin and Jeremy who break down the 33-23 University of Houston win over Big 12 favorite Oklahoma, and analyze the implications for Houston’s College Football Playoff bid.

Next, Wilson calls in to do a quick-hits recap of the NFL’s biggest stories, including Tony Romo’s injury, Colin Kaepernick’s National Anthem protest, Teddy Bridgewater’s injury and the consequences for the NFC North, as well as a look at the Texans defense, with J.J. Watt in recovery. Per WIlson, the cornerback position is deep and a strength, and that may prove vital to this playoff-hopeful squad.

Next, friend of the show and returning guest Sean Pendergast calls in to discuss the Texans ahead of the week-one matchup with the Chicago Bears. Pendergast has some strong takes on the hilarious about-face John Elway and the Broncos have executed, following the departure of Brock Osweiler (going so far as to compare Elway to a ‘spurned lover’), and he has some thoughts on what fans can expect from the starting quarterback this season. Pendergast also explains in greater detail the fallout between University of Houston head coach Tom Herman and Sports Radio 610.
